What is it?
On
Sunday 30 November 2014, from 1pm-10pm, the friendly folk from Laura
Street, Highgate Hill are opening their doors for a FREE festival - a
celebration of music, arts, culture, community and life.
Laura Street Festival is run by the community for the community. The intention is to bring people together to exchange and enjoy ideas, laughter, food, art, music, love and anything else people would like to contribute. Find out about contributing here.
The festival is run on volunteer power and is kindly hosted by the lovely people of Laura Street in Highgate Hill. Laura Street Festival aims to be a safe(r) space. You can read our safer spaces policy here.
If you want to get a sense of what the festival is like, check out this short video filmed by Dean Swindell in 2012 or look up previous festivals from 2013, 2012, and 2011.
The Laura Street Festival is organised by a team of local residents, community members and Turnstyle Community Hub. Turnstyle is a social space at 10 Laura St that provides resources for people and groups working on projects that benefit the community and/or for positive social change.
The facilitation of this community-minded and socially-conscious festival could not be made possible without the support and generosity of the Laura Street residents and volunteers from the local community.

Where is it? How do I get there?
The festival will take place along the street and in various homes along Laura Street in Highgate Hill. We encourage cycling, walking, skipping, shimmying and public transport. Check Translink for public transport options.
Eating, drinking & facilities
This festival is by the community, for the community, and it is non-commercial. We request that either all food and drink be provided on a not-for-profit basis or that any profits to be donated to good causes. Most commercial vendors are not interested in this model so providing food is up to all of us. We have plans for wood-fired pizza, bake sales, a sausage sizzle and a happy hummus competition (bring some hummus or chips).
Please get in touch with us if you can help to provide more food or help at a food stall on the day because the only food and drinks will be those that the community provides.
Water (bring a bottle) points will be available.
Toilets will be available.
This is a drug-free, alcohol-free and tobacco-free event.

What to bring
Festival regulars: suncream, water bottle, dancing shoes, chalk, etc. Check our workshop page closer to the festival as some of our workshops and stalls are interactive so you'll get more out of them if you come prepared.
Rainy day?
Come anyway! Just bring your umbrella and galoshes. We've got rainy day contingency plans in place (sort of).
Disclaimer
The
Laura Street Festival is run completely by your friends, your family
and your neighbours. We therefore recommend that you treat everyone with
the respect and courtesy that this implies. Please come for a great day
and be a part of your local community. Your own safety and the safety
of those around you is entirely up to you.
